Vitamin D defiency and what we can do to prevent it

From 2005 to 2008, the Max-Rubner institute researched vitamin D levels in Germany with worrying results of showing a deficiency in 82% of men and 91% of women.

Our skin can synthesize vitamin D3 from sunrays – which sounds itself simple, but isn´t:

  • Sunrays have to hit earth in a specific angle, which occurs only between June and September, and only between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. they are strong enough
  • You´re not allowed to use any sunscreen, since this would inhibit vitamin D3 synthesis
  • At least arms and legs must be full exposed to sunlight

Simple put – if you don´t have a job, where you work outside and skip the use of sunscreen (and accept serious sun-caused damages), you have almost no chance to get enough vitamin D3 via sunlight. Additional, from October to end of April, sunrays are not strong enough in Central Europe to start D3 synthesis in our skin.

What is vitamin D3 good for?

It boosts our immune system (which is important at beginning of autumn and winter to fight getting flu or cold), helps our bones and muscles to stay strong, it lowers blood pressure and is reducing inflammations. Additional, it helps us fight depression, rickets, osteomalacia and might be able to lower the risk of suffering diabetes and heart attack.

Vitamin D3 and sport

Simply put – if you are less sick in autumn and winter you can work out steadily with better effort! Since Vitamin D3 is boosting your immune system, you can counteract typical diseases like flu or cold.

Strong bones are equal important than strong muscles – and a Vitamin D3 deficiency can lead to osteoporosis and muscle weakness. Additional, Vitamin D3 is regulating the calcium supply of muscles, stimulates protein synthesis and plays a major role in building strong muscles.
Vitamin D3 regulates the intramuscular release of calcium which it needs for generating power.

What to do?

Good news – there a lot of foods, containing vitamin D3. Bad news – you have to eat a lot of them to get enough vitamin D3 out of it. Examples? 1.5 kg avocado, 1.6 kg veal, 1 kg tuna or 3 kg mushrooms will give you the same support than one tiny capsule of GoPrimal D3 will do.

This might look like heaven on earth for carnivores on first view – but is probably hard to turn into reality – much easier it is, to get Vitamin D3 intake into your daily routine, like before going to bed or first thing in the mourning together with breakfast.
